Vacancy for Senior Test Engineer (Permanent)

Opportunities like this are rare, and if you're not the best tester that you know, you're probably not the person we're looking for. If you are talented and ambitious, we want to hear from you.

Initially this will be an entirely operational role, but it will become more strategic and we expect it to become a board-level position within two years.

Job specification

We have a permanent position from the beginning of December 2011 for a Senior Test Engineer to manage the delivery of all our projects, mentor our test team and develop our testing methodology. Subject to performance, this will become a very senior (board-level) position.

Applicants must have supervisory or management experience, strong exploratory testing skills, fluency in HTML and CSS, good knowledge of Flash and JavaScript, significant automation experience (preferably Selenium) and a reasonable programming ability in C# or Java.

About us

Test Partners specialise in exploratory testing of websites and web-based applications. We are the UK's leaders in this exciting discipline and we look to recruit candidates who can demonstrate strong skills and a thorough understanding of the subject.

About you

  • You are a leader. Through your actions you command the respect of clients and colleagues alike.
  • You are never satisfied. 'Good enough' is not good enough. You constantly seek to improve your performance and that of your team. Ultimately you want to improve the testing profession as a whole.
  • You still enjoy hands-on testing and are better than anyone you know.
  • You have strong manual exploratory testing skills and experience of lightweight tools. You have experience of open-source automated tools such as Selenium and Watir and a reasonable programming ability in C# or Java.
  • You are likely to have at least 5 years experience of testing web-based applications in addition to any other testing experience.
  • You probably don't have ISEB / ISTQB or any other testing certifications. And you understand why we are very happy with that.
  • You are fluent in HTML and CSS and have a good knowledge of JavaScript and Flash. Knowledge of server-side technologies is useful but less important.
  • You will run your own projects, either alone or leading a small team, so strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. You will also oversee all other projects and be responsible for client liaison so a confident, professional demeanour is expected.
